As requested

Right this is shot 32 as of 12.15(am) friday morning.

Its ok-ish up until a point, the struggling to keep the weight up is working really well, but the lift from crouching needs work done to it, cuz at the mo' he just... does it, then stand stationary for about 15 frames.

I dont like the smile i have him doing at the end, it isn't expressive enough and looks generally bad and i might make the eye twitch a bit more subtle - make it look like its a small detail that supposed to go unnoticed...but still catches everyones attention.

Also need to bring the pot down further on his head before he starts lifting to add more weight cuz it looks too floaty.

Things to note -
Having him holding the flowerpot above his head in both hands is a right pain in the arse, its easy enough parenting the pot to one hand but matching the movement with the other arm has led to no end of grief, and has taken a ridiculous amount of time to get looking only half decent.

The flowerpot was WWWAAAAYYYYY too small and i've had to scale it up to fit Macho inside...should be okay though...i hope....

The flowerpot crash looks REALLY bad without the sound or dust, i did add some camera shake to it at one point, but then realized that if we're gonna be adding dust effects in AE then it wouldnt be possible to have the camera shaking, so i got rid of it...and its boring again

Found a couple of problems with the blendshapes as well. Namely that he doesn't like to look up with his eyes - simple solution is to not have him look up. I wouldn't say that the animation has suffered any and am not sure whether its worth taking the time to fix or just keep cracking on until its a proper issue.

Lemme know your thoughts on the animation. And also lemme know if we're gonna break into uni on Sun to get some texturing done (i've studied the layout and think i've found away around the security alarm).

  1. College will be a no go this weekend, apparently as animation students were not allowed as we'd have to pay for security...dont even get me started on preferential treatment of a certain set of BA courses. I've got Mike to fill out the request form and he was sposed to be mentioning it in a faculty meeting on Weds but until then its a no go. I shall email him and see what the result was.

    But to the animation.

This is a great start Matt, really good stuff going on here so well done. However as you've guessed i have some feedback (but then life would be boring without ay?)

    - Pot leans too far forward between 1-2 secs...that sort of lean would compleltely off balance him so be careful there.

-Macho needs some more eye spazes, maybe a couple and quite quick. The eyes are subtle on the character i realise so maybe try adding a bit of the brow to twitch just on that side of the eye...might work

-we need some judder/shudder/shake in those arms for definite when he's battling with the pot as this will really convey convincing weight.

-i dont think the smile is terrible but i definatly think it should be bigger and should almost transition into it quickly then we see the spasm etc. Again i think a bit of brow here would work with a full arch (centre up highest) to sort of be like aahhhh yess i did it im surprised/shocked but...o no.

-i think the transition from the down on one knee (can u put him onto his knee or is this a bitch to do) to upright needs to be quicker...hes really pushed that with great speed in order to lift it so like the 2D animatic it needs that pop of aaaaaaahhhhhYES upright.

Apart from that Matt its looking fantastic so give urself a pat on the back....now get back to work and finish it! Just kidding. We'll review this Monday and get some Dalli esque feedback.

  2. o crap one more thing
the pot needs to accelerate downwards faster.
and yes...camera shudder would be great and if the dynamics work that JBs doing it could be added, however Shuffles was showing me some smoke/dust he was doing in AE so it might end up being that which means without shudder unless we get the camera keying right BUT this is not necessity it can be done for the degree show if time permits. Lets focus on some kick ass ani

  3. personally matt - one thing bugging me - I know he has to go inside the pot... but the pot currently comes down at an angle over his head... looks a bit odd - like gravity is slightly bottom left.
